Associate Principal Scientist- Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS)

We are looking for:

To continue our growth as a premier Contract Research Organisation, Pharmaron is opening a new Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Laboratory at our Hoddesdon site. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of an accelerator mass spectrometer to provide 14C-data for studies for new product development based on global regulatory requirements.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Analysing samples generated in both regulatory and non-regulatory Clinical studies to successfully fulfil all the requirements of a study to the timelines stated in the Study Plan/Analytical Work Plan, under direction of the Analytical Project Manager.
  • Perform all necessary instrument qualification, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure that the AMS and its peripherals are always operational.
  • To train and mentor laboratory scientists on the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the AMS, with line management and develop training materials.
  • Work with Analytical Project Manager on client communication, contributing scientifically to client discussions and actively contribute to client visits and teleconferences.
  • Provide technical updates to Analytical Project Manager/Management at all points in the study life cycle. 
  • Maintain and write SOPs and address findings appropriate to area arising from QA audits and process inspections.
  • Lead process improvement/new service development projects in their specialist area.
  • Increase profile of the department externally by publishing papers/posters and participation in expert groups.

Requirements:

  • PhD, MSc or BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics or related subject 
  • Experience in operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of an accelerator mass spectrometer. Experience with Ionplus AMS instruments would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in the interpretation of data generated by AMS 
  • Ability to mentor and train with supervisory or line management experience desirable
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present scientific findings to colleagues and clients 
  • Excellent planning and organization skills – ability to multi-task, manage time and work to tight deadlines
  • Flexible mindset with the ability to take the initiative.
