We are looking for:
 EHS officer 

The EHS team are responsible for providing our Hoddesdon site with a framework to effectively manage Environmental, Health and Safety risks. As the Environmental Health and Safety officer, you will play a critical role in actively engaging and assisting our EHS manager to maintain compliance with UK EHS legislation, emergency arrangements, guidance documents, risk assessments, company policies, permits and supporting operational internal and external audits.

Key roles and responsibilities:
  • To help provide active guidance, support, coaching and direction to company staff and contractors in EHS programs to ensure a common and effective approach.        
  • Maintain awareness of changes to UK EHS Legislation and guidance, site operational permits and licensing.
  • Support the EHS Manager in achieving the goals & objectives for the department and site.
  • Undertake workplace inspections, Safe System of Work audits and behavioural observations to ensure correct practices are adhered and delivering constructive feedback to maximise the prospect of the business meeting its compliance obligations and improving operational excellence.
  • Assist in Providing support for the site Business Continuity plan and emergency arrangements, including working with the site Incident response team regarding training, emergency exercises and first aid provision. 
  • Assist with production of Health and Safety plans, procedures, risk assessments, associated documentation, and check compliance
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement in systems, processes and operations to proactively enhance compliance standards, working with EHS Manager and other department leaders / EHS reps to implement corrective actions and improvement plans.
  • Maintain EHS and other relevant compliance guidance documentation.
  • Actively seek to elevate standards and awareness of EHS through delivering internal EHS training activities such as site inductions for new staff.
  • Once trained and competent, support investigation and review of accidents, incidents and near miss events.
  • Assist with Preparation of EHS reports as required.
 
Essential Requirements:
  • High School or equivalent
  • Experience with recognising risks/hazards and ability to act effectively
  • Working within a highly regulated environment
 
 
Desirable Requirements:
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • NEBOSH General certificate
  • Experience in an EHS related supporting role
  • Experience with writing documents with input from a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience conducting and reporting EHS Audits
  • Experience in Fire Safety Management
  • Experience in Emergency response Management
  • Understanding of waste management regulations
  • Working within a GMP/regulated environment
  • Implementation of EHS improvement initiatives
  • Interfacing with regulatory bodies/inspectors
  • Supervising and/or permitting employee/contractor work activities
  • Operating under a Safe Systems of Work Arrangement

Pharmaron acquired the Hoddesdon campus, consisting of several purpose built scientific and administrative buildings together with a purpose-built conference area in February 2017. The research building has more than 5,000m2 of premier R&D space and houses an established Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Discovery teams. In addition, a Formulation Development team was also recently established. The Hoddesdon site has state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard facilities for the development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), Formulation Development (FD) and Process Chemistry (PC).
