Undergraduate Industrial Placement Student- Biophysics, In vitro Biology Department

A Pharmaron placement will provide you with the opportunity gain work experience in a pharmaceutical research environment and help you enhance your career prospects. If you have an interest in drug discovery and want to learn more about biophysical methods contribution to the future medicine development form highly skilled scientists, then apply for 12-month placement starting in summer 2025.

As part of the placement, you will work closely with your supervisor to plan and carry out experiments to support early stages of drug discovery.

During your 12-month placement, you will have the opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience in biophysical methods for example SPR, MST and nanoDSF, commonly used to assess molecules binding profiles against targets of interest. You will get a valuable insight how biophysics supports early drug discovery from the initial hit identification, validation and detailed characterisation of molecules that could become future medicine. In addition, understanding, interpreting and reporting results will also be a key aspect of the placement role. The data you generate will contribute to the design of future compounds that will subsequently lead to the development of a future medicine. Working in brand new state-of-the-art laboratories you will be able to use your knowledge and skills to contribute to exciting R&D projects and make an impact on human health.

Requirements:
  • Studying towards an undergraduate degree in either a Chemistry, Biology or Pharmacology related discipline. 
  • Predicted 1st or 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent)
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Conscientious
  • Well-organised and confident to work independently
