Undergraduate Industrial Placement Student, Synthetic Chemistry
Please note, this placement is only open to undergraduate students that will be in their penultimate or final year of a relevant science degree for the academic year 2025-2026.
Our site in Hoddesdon hosts synthetic chemists dedicated to discovering efficient methods for synthesizing novel compounds that have the potential to become future medicines.
This involves the design, route development, and large-scale synthesis (multi-kilogram) of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
We are currently seeking undergraduate chemistry students to join our teams for a 12-month Synthetic Chemistry Industrial Placement, available in both our Process Chemistry and Drug Discovery departments.
These placements provide a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in modern synthetic chemistry laboratories using state-of-the-art equipment.
You will develop your practical skills and gain exposure to the principles and techniques of process or medicinal chemistry. Utilizing your knowledge and problem-solving abilities, you will contribute to R&D projects, including route design and method development.

Requirements:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree with a significant Organic Chemistry component
- Predicted 1st or 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent)
- Strong teamwork skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail
- Conscientiousness
- Well-organized and confident in working independently
